hey, did you feel that Taku pants were an overkill or just right? I’ll be heading out in the end of August, was wondering if my winter softshells would be an overkill. No shovel or ice screws?
For me the Taku pants were just right. I had a base layer on underneath and on the hike to Muir they were zippered open for ventilation. On summit day they kept me warm and dry even in 90+mph winds. If you’re softshells block the wind pretty well then I’d wear them. My buddy had on a Patagonia softshell with a microfleece lining and overheated. Just FYI.
We both had one ice screw when we went up but a shovel was unnecessary because we stayed in the hut at Camp Muir.
